Help
Music Momentos is for catching song ideas the moment you have them. Record, and it works out the tempo, key and chords, then plays your idea back with a drummer, a bass player and chords.
Recording
- Tap the big button to record, and again to stop. The first time, your browser asks for the microphone: choose Allow.
- Auto starts recording when you start playing and stops after a few seconds of quiet. It keeps the couple of seconds before you started, so the first note isn't lost.
- Click counts you in on a metronome (0–2 bars) and starts the take on the downbeat, so its tempo and bar lines are exact. Use headphones if you want the click while you record, or the microphone will hear it.
- Press M while recording to drop a marker at that moment.
- A take can be up to 10 minutes long. You'll get a warning a minute before the end.
- Every take is saved on your device the moment you stop, and detection carries on in the background.
The timeline
- Drag the waveform to scroll. Use the scroll wheel, a pinch or the − and + buttons to zoom, and double-click to see it all.
- Tap the waveform to move the playhead. Tap a marker's flag to jump to it.
- The green lane shows the chords and the yellow lane the band's sections.
Editing
- Chords: tap a chord to change it, for the whole chord or just that bar. Drag across bars to set a chord for exactly those bars, or drag a chord's edge to change its length.
- Snapping: edges snap to bars. Hold Shift to snap to beats, or Alt to move freely. On a touch screen, hold still for a moment before dragging to switch between bars and beats.
- Musical details: set the tempo (with tap tempo, ×2 and ÷2), key, time signature, downbeat and transposition. Anything you set by hand stays when detection runs again.
- Trim the recording with handles that snap to the beat. Chords, sections and markers move with it.
- Gap inserts a silence at the playhead. The recording itself is never cut, so you can move, resize or remove a gap later.
- Lead-in adds bars before the recording for the band to play.
- Undo and redo work for every edit, even after closing the app, and History can bring back any earlier version.
The band
- Switch the drums, bass and chords on from the player. Their settings are kept with each idea.
- Drag across bars in the band lane to make a section, then set its drums, bass pattern, chord sound and a fill into the next section.
- Styles: Rock, Pop, Jazz Brush and Electro. Any time signature works, and odd meters are grouped the way players count them (7/8 as 2+2+3).
- Mix sets each part's volume. Surround places the parts around you on 5.1 speakers, with a stereo version elsewhere.
Tuner and tuning fork
With the microphone on, the strip at the top is a tuner. Tap it for the tuning fork, which plays each string of standard and alternate tunings. The reference A can be set from 432 to 446 Hz.
Your ideas
- The library button (top left) lists your ideas. Search by title, chord, tag or notes, and filter by tag or favourites.
- Swipe an idea left to star or delete it. Deleted ideas wait in Recently Deleted for 30 days, on every device.
- Import adds an audio file. Blank starts an idea with no recording, to write chords for the band. Download any idea as a WAV file from its ⋯ menu.
Sync and your recovery code
There are no accounts. Each browser makes its own library, and everything is encrypted on your device before it's uploaded, so nobody else can listen to your ideas or read them, including us.
The cloud button (top right) shows your recovery code. Save it: copy it, download it or scan its QR code. Enter it on another device to share the same library there. Without the code, a lost or cleared browser can't get its ideas back: nobody can decrypt them for you.
A library's cloud copy is deleted after 30 days without any device syncing it. Your ideas stay on your devices, and the next device to open the app uploads them again.
Sharing
Share an idea from its menu to get a link. Anyone with the link can play it and save a copy, but not your notes or tags. The link carries its own key, so the server can't play the shared copy either. You can update or revoke a link at any time.

Troubleshooting
- It won't record
- Check the browser allows this site to use the microphone (usually the icon in the address bar), and that no other app is using it.
- The band is out of time
- Open the idea's editor and check the tempo and downbeat: tap tempo, ×2 and ÷2 fix most problems, and you can drag the downbeat marker.
- Detection failed
- Tap Try again. Very quiet or very short takes are the hardest; you can always set the key and tempo by hand.
- My ideas aren't on my other device
- Both devices need the same recovery code. Enter it from the cloud button on the device that's missing them.
